Wotcha!!
My name's Mad and I live in the village of Repton, between Burton on Trent and Derby. Day-to-day snippets of news from Planet Mad can be found here, whilst this site won't update very often (because I can never remember how to ftp stuff, and always have to look it up…blogging's just soooo much easier!!)
I teach at Repton School a boarding school for 13-18 year olds near Burton on Trent. I used to teach at Teesdale School in Barnard Castle, in County Durham. For those of you who don't know where either place is then buy a road atlas!! I teach economics and business, mostly to sixth formers, who are lovely and very understanding about my rather unconventional teaching methods!! I also do all sorts of extra-curricular things (in boarding-school-teacher-have-a-go-at-everything style!) including playing in string orchestra, running a pub quiz ('though sadly not in a pub) and umpiring the school's second VII netball team. I don't get much spare time, but that doesn't stop me frequenting Repton's British Legion club, where I'm learning the fiendishly difficult game of snooker.
Before becoming a teacher, I read economics and politics at the University of Durham and spent a year doing teacher training at the University of Warwick. The fact that I attended such well-regarded educational institutions is more a credit to the quality of my application-form writing skills than my intellect!! :-)
Some links, for what they're worth...
This site doesn't change anywhere near as often as it should, so tough!! Read my blog for more up-to-the-minute news…
